Misery

Misery is a psychological horror novel by Stephen King that tells the story of Paul Sheldon, a bestselling author known for writing a popular series of romance novels featuring the character Misery Chastain. After finishing the latest book in the series, Paul is involved in a car accident and is rescued by Annie Wilkes, a former nurse who claims to be his "No. 1 fan."

However, Paul soon learns that Annie has no intention of letting him go. She holds him captive in her remote home, forcing him to write a new novel in the Misery series, and she becomes increasingly unstable and violent when Paul does not meet her demands. As Paul’s physical and psychological torment intensifies, he must find a way to escape the clutches of his deranged captor.

Misery is a tense, claustrophobic thriller that examines the dangers of obsession, the power of creativity, and the fine line between admiration and madness. The novel was adapted into a successful film in 1990, starring Kathy Bates, who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Annie Wilkes.
